How to Craft Target in Minecraft

Gather 4 Redstone Dust and 1 Hay Bale, then work it on a Crafting Table. Read it row by row: Redstone Dust in the middle column, then two Redstone Dust down either side and a Hay Bale in the middle column, then Redstone Dust in the middle column. One go makes 1 Target.
Target Item ID and Give Command
The item ID for Target is minecraft:target. In commands the namespace may be left off, so target works too. Checked against Minecraft Java 26.2.
- Give yourself one
/give @p target- Give a full stack of 64
/give @p target 64- Give it to a named player
/give Steve target 1
Cheats have to be on for Target to appear this way, and the same command works on Bedrock Edition, where the name is written the same.
Overview
Target blocks emit a redstone signal when hit by a projectile. The signal strength depends on how close to center the hit lands. Target uses a shaped recipe: the ingredients only work in the pattern shown.
This recipe first appears in the game's own data files in Minecraft 1.16, and not in the release before it.
The materials come together from a few sources: you will be working with redstone dust (mine redstone ore) and hay bale (craft from wheat).
The Stack Arithmetic
Bring 64 redstone dust, leave with 16 targets, after 16 rounds of 4 for 1. The recipe wants 16 hay bales beside it. Craft 16 clears the box of redstone dust.
Materials Needed
Collect 4x Redstone Dust (mine redstone ore) and Hay Bale (craft from wheat) first; the Crafting Table does the rest.
The Full Chain
9 Wheat makes 1 Hay Bale, the one part of this you craft rather than gather. All in: 4 Redstone Dust and 9 Wheat.
