How to Craft Crafter in Minecraft

Crafter in Minecraft, drawn from the game's own block model. Automatic crafting when powered by redstone. The recipe first appears in the game's files in Minecraft 1.21.

On a Crafting Table, 5 Iron Ingots, 1 Crafting Table, 1 Redstone Dust, and 2 Droppers turns into a Crafter. Read it row by row: three Iron Ingots, then two Iron Ingots down either side and a Crafting Table in the middle column, then two Droppers in the outer columns and Redstone Dust in the middle column. Each attempt hands back 1 Crafter.

Crafter Item ID and Give Command

The item ID for Crafter is minecraft:crafter. In commands the namespace may be left off, so crafter works too. Checked against Minecraft Java 26.2.

Give yourself one
/give @p crafter
Give a full stack of 64
/give @p crafter 64
Give it to a named player
/give Steve crafter 1

Cheats have to be on for Crafter to appear this way, and the same command works on Bedrock Edition, where the name is written the same.

Overview

The Crafter automatically crafts items when powered by a redstone pulse. It has a 3x3 grid and ejects finished items. Crafter uses a shaped recipe: the ingredients only work in the pattern shown.

This recipe first appears in the game's own data files in Minecraft 1.21, and not in the release before it.

The materials come together from a few sources: you will be working with iron ingot (smelt iron ore), crafting table (craft from planks), redstone dust (mine redstone ore), and dropper (craft from cobblestone and redstone).

What A Stack Yields

Work a stack down, 64 iron ingots, and you land on 12 crafters. On top of that: 24 droppers. That leaves 4 iron ingots with no partner.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to craft a Crafter in Minecraft?
Bring 5 Iron Ingots, 1 Crafting Table, 1 Redstone Dust and 2 Droppers to a Crafting Table and you can make a Crafter. Arrange them in the exact grid pattern shown above, and one craft produces one Crafter.
What do you need to make a Crafter from scratch?
Gather 3 Redstone Dust, 5 Iron Ore, 4 Planks and 14 Cobblestones and you have everything a Crafter needs. The in-between items are all crafted, 4 crafts from start to finish.
Can you craft a Crafter without a crafting table?
The inventory grid is too small for a Crafter, so you need a table. It is laid out as five Iron Ingots, a single Crafting Table in the centre cell, two Droppers side by side in the bottom row, and a single Redstone Dust in the bottom-middle cell, and that takes 3 rows, more than the 2x2 grid in your inventory can hold.
Where do you find the materials for a Crafter?
Each ingredient in a Crafter has its own source. Iron Ingot: smelt iron ore. Crafting Table: craft from planks. Redstone Dust: mine redstone ore. Dropper: craft from cobblestone and redstone.
What should I craft first for a Crafter?
For a Crafter, start with a Dropper: 14 Cobblestones and 2 Redstone Dust gives you 2 Droppers. After that the order is Crafting Table and Iron Ingot, and then the Crafter itself.
How many Crafters do you get from one craft?
The Crafter recipe makes one Crafter per craft.
What is the item ID for Crafter in Minecraft?
Crafter is registered as minecraft:crafter. Commands accept the short form crafter as well, and Bedrock spells it the same. Checked against Java 26.2.
What is the give command for Crafter?
Use /give @p crafter to put a Crafter in your own inventory, or /give @p crafter 64 for a full stack of 64. Cheats have to be on.
Is the Crafter recipe the same in Java and Bedrock Edition?
Yes, the Crafter recipe is the same in both editions. Java and Bedrock both build a Crafter from 5 Iron Ingots, 1 Crafting Table, 1 Redstone Dust and 2 Droppers at a Crafting Table, in the same layout, one at a time.
How many crafting steps does a Crafter take?
A Crafter takes 4 crafts once you count the parts: Dropper, Crafting Table and Iron Ingot, and then the Crafter. The chain section above walks through them in order.
What version of Minecraft added the Crafter?
Mojang's own data puts the crafter at Minecraft 1.21, the first release that describes how to make it. The current release still makes a Crafter exactly that way.
