How to Craft Stone Sword in Minecraft

Stone Sword in Minecraft, drawn from the game's own item texture. Melee combat.

Making a Stone Sword takes 2 Cobblestones and 1 Stick at a Crafting Table. The grid takes two Cobblestones stacked in the middle column and a single Stick in the bottom-middle cell. That comes out as 1 Stone Sword. Durability is 131, and that is how many uses one gets you.

Stone Sword Item ID and Give Command

The item ID for Stone Sword is minecraft:stone_sword. In commands the namespace may be left off, so stone_sword works too. Checked against Minecraft Java 26.2.

Give yourself one
/give @p stone_sword
Give several at once
/give @p stone_sword 5
Give it to a named player
/give Steve stone_sword 1

Cheats have to be on for Stone Sword to appear this way, and the same command works on Bedrock Edition, where the name is written the same.

Repairing Stone Sword

Those 131 uses are not the end of the road. Feed Stone Sword back onto an anvil with Cobblestone and it comes back up with its enchantments intact.

There is a cheaper way, and a catch. A grindstone merges two worn Stone Sword items without costing levels, but it removes every enchantment while it does so.

The cheapest fix of all is Mending, which Stone Sword accepts. Experience you collect goes into the tool rather than your level bar, and it keeps itself topped up.

Overview

The Stone Sword deals 5 attack damage and has 131 durability. Stone Sword uses a shaped recipe: the ingredients only work in the pattern shown.

The stone sword was already in the game in Minecraft Beta 1.0, the oldest release with an English language file to read, so this recipe is at least that old. The recipe itself last changed in Minecraft 1.16. Guides written before that release show a different set of ingredients for the stone sword, so check the grid above rather than the video.

The materials come together from a few sources: you will be working with cobblestone (mine stone) and stick (craft from planks).

Per Stack

Work a stack down, 64 cobblestones, and you land on 32 stone swords. The recipe wants 32 sticks beside it. Down to the last cobblestones, nothing spare.
