How to Craft Golden Sword in Minecraft

Golden Sword in Minecraft, drawn from the game's own item texture. Melee combat with high enchantability.

The bill for a Golden Sword is 2 Gold Ingots and 1 Stick, and the work happens at a Crafting Table. Copy this shape: two Gold Ingots stacked in the middle column and a single Stick in the bottom-middle cell. One go makes 1 Golden Sword. Count on 32 uses out of each one before it wears through.

Golden Sword Item ID and Give Command

The item ID for Golden Sword is minecraft:golden_sword. In commands the namespace may be left off, so golden_sword works too. Checked against Minecraft Java 26.2.

Give yourself one
/give @p golden_sword
Give several at once
/give @p golden_sword 5
Give it to a named player
/give Steve golden_sword 1

Cheats have to be on for Golden Sword to appear this way, and the same command works on Bedrock Edition, where the name is written the same.

Repairing Golden Sword

When Golden Sword nears the end of its 32 uses, Gold Ingot on an anvil is the ordinary fix, enchantments and all.

There is a cheaper way, and a catch. A grindstone merges two worn Golden Sword items without costing levels, but it removes every enchantment while it does so.

The cheapest fix of all is Mending, which Golden Sword accepts. Experience you collect goes into the tool rather than your level bar, and it keeps itself topped up.

Overview

The Golden Sword deals 4 attack damage and has 32 durability. It has the highest enchantability of all swords. Golden Sword uses a shaped recipe: the ingredients only work in the pattern shown.

The golden sword was already in the game in Minecraft Beta 1.0, the oldest release with an English language file to read, so this recipe is at least that old. The recipe itself last changed in Minecraft 1.21.2. Guides written before that release show a different set of ingredients for the golden sword, so check the grid above rather than the video.

The materials come together from a few sources: you will be working with gold ingot (smelt gold ore) and stick (craft from planks).

The Stack Arithmetic

2 gold ingots for 1 golden sword scales to 32 out of a 64 stack. You supply 32 sticks to go with it. Down to the last gold ingots, nothing spare.

How many Golden Swords do you get from one craft?
The Golden Sword recipe makes one Golden Sword per craft.
What is the item ID for Golden Sword in Minecraft?
Golden Sword is registered as minecraft:golden_sword. Commands accept the short form golden_sword as well, and Bedrock spells it the same. Checked against Java 26.2.
