This one is smelted rather than crafted: 1 Cobblestone in a Furnace, fuel below it, no grid involved. What comes out is 1 Stone.

The item ID for Stone is minecraft:stone. In commands the namespace may be left off, so stone works too. Checked against Minecraft Java 26.2.

Give yourself one: /give @p stone
Give a full stack of 64: /give @p stone 64
Give it to a named player: /give Steve stone 1

Cheats have to be on for Stone to appear this way, and the same command works on Bedrock Edition, where the name is written the same.

Overview

Stone is smelted from cobblestone. It can be obtained directly with Silk Touch or by smelting. Stone is produced by smelting in a Furnace rather than by arranging items in a grid.

The stone was already in the game in Minecraft Beta 1.0, the oldest release with an English language file to read, so this recipe is at least that old.

The materials come together from a few sources: you will be working with cobblestone (mine stone blocks).

Open your Furnace interface.
Place Cobblestone in the top input slot.
Add fuel (coal, charcoal, wood, etc.) to the bottom fuel slot.
Wait for the smelting progress bar to complete. Collect your Stone from the output slot.
