How to Craft Blast Furnace in Minecraft

Blast Furnace in Minecraft, drawn from the game's own block model. Smelting ores twice as fast as a furnace. The recipe first appears in the game's files in Minecraft 1.14.

On a Crafting Table, 5 Iron Ingots, 1 Furnace, and 3 Smooth Stone turns into a Blast Furnace. From the top down: three Iron Ingots; then two Iron Ingots in the outer columns and a Furnace in the middle column; then three Smooth Stone. One go makes 1 Blast Furnace.

Blast Furnace Item ID and Give Command

The item ID for Blast Furnace is minecraft:blast_furnace. In commands the namespace may be left off, so blast_furnace works too. Checked against Minecraft Java 26.2.

Give yourself one
/give @p blast_furnace
Give a full stack of 64
/give @p blast_furnace 64
Give it to a named player
/give Steve blast_furnace 1

Cheats have to be on for Blast Furnace to appear this way, and the same command works on Bedrock Edition, where the name is written the same.

Overview

The Blast Furnace smelts ores and metal armor/tools at double speed but only works with ores and metals. Blast Furnace uses a shaped recipe: the ingredients only work in the pattern shown. A Blast Furnace smelts ores and metal items at twice the speed of a normal furnace, but only accepts ore-type and metal inputs. It is the natural upgrade once you are processing iron and gold in bulk.

This recipe first appears in the game's own data files in Minecraft 1.14, and not in the release before it.

The materials come together from a few sources: you will be working with iron ingot (smelt iron ore), furnace (craft from cobblestone), and smooth stone (smelt stone).

The Stack Arithmetic

5 iron ingots for 1 blast furnace scales to 12 out of a 64 stack. You supply 36 smooth stone to go with it. That leaves 4 iron ingots with no partner.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to craft a Blast Furnace in Minecraft?
The list for a Blast Furnace is short: 5 Iron Ingots, 1 Furnace and 3 Smooth Stone, worked at a Crafting Table. The pattern above is exact, so match it square by square, and one craft produces one Blast Furnace.
What do you need to make a Blast Furnace from scratch?
Starting with nothing, a Blast Furnace costs 5 Iron Ore and 11 Cobblestones. Everything else in the recipe is something you craft on the way there, over 5 crafts in total.
Can you craft a Blast Furnace without a crafting table?
Not this one: a Blast Furnace will not fit the inventory grid. It is laid out as five Iron Ingots, a single Furnace in the centre cell, and three Smooth Stone filling the bottom row, and that takes 3 rows, more than the 2x2 grid in your inventory can hold.
Where do you find the materials for a Blast Furnace?
The materials for a Blast Furnace each come from somewhere different. Iron Ingot: smelt iron ore. Furnace: craft from cobblestone. Smooth Stone: smelt stone.
What should I craft first for a Blast Furnace?
For a Blast Furnace, start with Stone: 3 Cobblestones gives you 3 Stone. After that the order is Smooth Stone, Furnace and Iron Ingot, and then the Blast Furnace itself.
How many Blast Furnaces do you get from one craft?
The Blast Furnace recipe makes one Blast Furnace per craft.
What is the item ID for Blast Furnace in Minecraft?
Blast Furnace is registered as minecraft:blast_furnace. Commands accept the short form blast_furnace as well, and Bedrock spells it the same. Checked against Java 26.2.
What is the give command for Blast Furnace?
Use /give @p blast_furnace to put a Blast Furnace in your own inventory, or /give @p blast_furnace 64 for a full stack of 64. Cheats have to be on.
Is the Blast Furnace recipe the same in Java and Bedrock Edition?
Java and Bedrock agree on a Blast Furnace: both want 5 Iron Ingots, 1 Furnace and 3 Smooth Stone at a Crafting Table in the layout above, and both give one at a time.
How many crafting steps does a Blast Furnace take?
A Blast Furnace takes 5 crafts once you count the parts: Stone, Smooth Stone, Furnace and Iron Ingot, and then the Blast Furnace. The chain section above walks through them in order.
What version of Minecraft added the Blast Furnace?
For the blast furnace the answer is Minecraft 1.14, and it is not a guess: that release carries the recipe, the one before it does not. What you see in the grid above is how it works in the current release.
