How to Craft Furnace in Minecraft

Furnace in Minecraft, drawn from the game's own block model. Smelting ores into ingots.

Bring 8 Cobblestones to a Crafting Table and you have a Furnace. In the grid that is eight Cobblestones around the edge, leaving the centre cell empty. The grid returns 1 Furnace.

Furnace Item ID and Give Command

The item ID for Furnace is minecraft:furnace. In commands the namespace may be left off, so furnace works too. Checked against Minecraft Java 26.2.

Give yourself one
/give @p furnace
Give a full stack of 64
/give @p furnace 64
Give it to a named player
/give Steve furnace 1

Cheats have to be on for Furnace to appear this way, and the same command works on Bedrock Edition, where the name is written the same.

Overview

The Furnace smelts ores, cooks food and processes materials. It requires fuel such as coal, wood or lava buckets. Furnace uses a shaped recipe: the ingredients only work in the pattern shown. A Furnace smelts one item at a time using a fuel slot. Coal, charcoal, dried kelp blocks, lava buckets, and any wood all work as fuel, with each piece of coal smelting eight items.

The furnace was already in the game in Minecraft Beta 1.0, the oldest release with an English language file to read, so this recipe is at least that old. The recipe itself last changed in Minecraft 1.16.2. Guides written before that release show a different set of ingredients for the furnace, so check the grid above rather than the video. It has been changed 2 times since 1.13.

The materials come together from a few sources: you will be working with cobblestone (mine stone).

The Full Stack Sum
