How to Craft Sugar in Minecraft

Stand at a Crafting Table with 1 Sugar Cane and you can make Sugar. Expect 1 Sugar from every craft.
Sugar Item ID and Give Command
The item ID for Sugar is minecraft:sugar. In commands the namespace may be left off, so sugar works too. Checked against Minecraft Java 26.2.
- Give yourself one
/give @p sugar- Give a full stack of 64
/give @p sugar 64- Give it to a named player
/give Steve sugar 1
Cheats have to be on for Sugar to appear this way, and the same command works on Bedrock Edition, where the name is written the same.
Overview
Sugar is crafted from sugar cane. It is used in food recipes and to brew Potions of Swiftness. Sugar uses a shapeless recipe, so the ingredients can go in any cells of the grid as long as all of them are present.
Minecraft has used the name Sugar since Beta 1.2, the oldest release whose language file lists it.
The materials come together from a few sources: you will be working with sugar cane (harvest sugar cane near water).
Counting The Stack
Feed 1 sugar cane a craft, so 64 covers 64 of them: 64 sugar. It divides evenly, no sugar cane left over.
Materials Needed
Gather Sugar Cane (harvest sugar cane near water), then take the lot to a Crafting Table.
