The recipe wants 8 Planks, and a Crafting Table to run it on. The grid takes eight Planks around the edge, leaving the centre cell empty. That comes out as 1 Chest. Chests double as furnace fuel: 300 ticks each, so 43 of them smelt a full stack of 64.

The item ID for Chest is minecraft:chest. In commands the namespace may be left off, so chest works too. Checked against Minecraft Java 26.2.

Overview
