How to Craft Smithing Table in Minecraft

Smithing Table in Minecraft, drawn from the game's own block model. Upgrading diamond gear to netherite. The recipe first appears in the game's files in Minecraft 1.14.

Stand at a Crafting Table with 2 Iron Ingots and 4 Planks and you can make a Smithing Table. On the grid you want two Iron Ingots side by side in the top row and four Planks in a 2x2 square. You end up with 1 Smithing Table each time. Burn it instead and one gives 300 ticks, which means 43 Smithing Tables take a stack of 64 all the way through a furnace.

Smithing Table Item ID and Give Command

The item ID for Smithing Table is minecraft:smithing_table. In commands the namespace may be left off, so smithing_table works too. Checked against Minecraft Java 26.2.

Give yourself one
/give @p smithing_table
Give a full stack of 64
/give @p smithing_table 64
Give it to a named player
/give Steve smithing_table 1

Cheats have to be on for Smithing Table to appear this way, and the same command works on Bedrock Edition, where the name is written the same.

Overview

The Smithing Table upgrades diamond tools and armor to netherite using netherite upgrade templates. It also applies armor trim patterns. Smithing Table uses a shaped recipe: the ingredients only work in the pattern shown. A Smithing Table applies upgrade templates. It is the only way to apply the Netherite Upgrade and the armor trim templates, and it never consumes the diamond gear's enchantments.

This recipe first appears in the game's own data files in Minecraft 1.14, and not in the release before it.

The materials come together from a few sources: you will be working with iron ingot (smelt iron ore) and planks (craft from logs).

One Stack, Counted

One stack is 16 goes at 4 planks each, which totals 16 smithing tables. You supply 32 iron ingots to go with it. Craft 16 empties the box exactly.
