How to Craft Mace in Minecraft

Mace in Minecraft, drawn from the game's own item texture. Melee combat with smash attack. The recipe first appears in the game's files in Minecraft 1.21.

Stand at a Crafting Table with 1 Heavy Core and 1 Breeze Rod and you can make a Mace. Place them as a single Heavy Core in the top-middle cell and a single Breeze Rod in the bottom-middle cell. Done once, that is 1 Mace. One lasts 500 uses.

Mace Item ID and Give Command

The item ID for Mace is minecraft:mace. In commands the namespace may be left off, so mace works too. Checked against Minecraft Java 26.2.

Give yourself one
/give @p mace
Give several at once
/give @p mace 5
Give it to a named player
/give Steve mace 1

Cheats have to be on for Mace to appear this way, and the same command works on Bedrock Edition, where the name is written the same.

Repairing Mace

Mace lasts 500 uses, and a worn one is not scrap: two of them merged on an anvil give you a single item carrying the durability of both.

Two worn ones can also be merged on a grindstone. That is the cheaper route and it asks no levels, but it strips every enchantment off, so it suits a plain Mace rather than one you have invested in.

The cheapest fix of all is Mending, which Mace accepts. Experience you collect goes into the tool rather than your level bar, and it keeps itself topped up.

Overview

The Mace is a powerful weapon that deals extra damage based on fall distance. Landing a hit while falling negates fall damage entirely. It has 500 durability. Mace uses a shaped recipe: the ingredients only work in the pattern shown.

This recipe first appears in the game's own data files in Minecraft 1.21, and not in the release before it.

The materials come together from a few sources: you will be working with heavy core (found in ominous trial vaults) and breeze rod (dropped by breezes).

Stack Maths

Per craft 1 breeze rod buys 1 mace; per stack 64 buys 64. On top of that: 64 heavy cores. Nothing is wasted: craft 64 takes the rest.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to craft a Mace in Minecraft?
The list for a Mace is short: 1 Heavy Core and 1 Breeze Rod, worked at a Crafting Table. Copy the grid above cell for cell, and one craft produces one Mace.
Can you craft a Mace without a crafting table?
You can, and without a table: the 2x2 grid in your inventory is enough for a Mace. It is laid out as a single Heavy Core in the top-middle cell and a single Breeze Rod in the bottom-middle cell, which never leaves a 2x2 area.
Where do you find the materials for a Mace?
The parts of a Mace do not all come from one place. Heavy Core: found in ominous trial vaults. Breeze Rod: dropped by breezes.
How many Maces do you get from one craft?
The Mace recipe makes one Mace per craft.
What is the item ID for Mace in Minecraft?
The Mace item ID is minecraft:mace, and in a command you can drop the namespace and write mace on its own. Checked against Java 26.2.
What enchantments can you put on a Mace?
A Mace takes 9 enchantments: Density, Breach, Wind Burst, Smite, Bane of Arthropods, Fire Aspect, Unbreaking, Mending and Curse of Vanishing. An enchanting table or an anvil can apply them.
What is the give command for Mace?
The command for Mace is /give @p mace, with an optional count after it. It only runs with cheats enabled.
Is the Mace recipe the same in Java and Bedrock Edition?
Yes, the Mace recipe is the same in both editions. Java and Bedrock both build a Mace from 1 Heavy Core and 1 Breeze Rod at a Crafting Table, in the same layout, one at a time.
What version of Minecraft added the Mace?
For the mace the answer is Minecraft 1.21, and it is not a guess: that release carries the recipe, the one before it does not. That pattern above is still the one the game uses.
