How to Craft Fire Charge in Minecraft

Fire Charge in Minecraft, drawn from the game's own item texture. Starting fires. Minecraft has used the name Fire Charge since 1.2.1.

Feed a Crafting Table 1 Blaze Powder, 1 Coal, and 1 Gunpowder and Fire Charges come back. One go makes 3 Fire Charges.

Fire Charge Item ID and Give Command

The item ID for Fire Charge is minecraft:fire_charge. In commands the namespace may be left off, so fire_charge works too. Checked against Minecraft Java 26.2.

Give yourself one
/give @p fire_charge
Give a full stack of 64
/give @p fire_charge 64
Give it to a named player
/give Steve fire_charge 1

Cheats have to be on for Fire Charge to appear this way, and the same command works on Bedrock Edition, where the name is written the same.

Overview

Fire Charges set blocks on fire when used and can activate nether portals. Dispensers can shoot them as fireballs. Fire Charge uses a shapeless recipe, so the ingredients can go in any cells of the grid as long as all of them are present.

Minecraft has used the name Fire Charge since 1.2.1, the oldest release whose language file lists it.

The materials come together from a few sources: you will be working with blaze powder (craft from blaze rods), coal (mine coal ore), and gunpowder (kill creepers).

The Stack Arithmetic

1 blaze powder for 3 fire charges scales to 192 out of a 64 stack. The recipe wants 64 coal beside it. Craft 64 takes the last blaze powder, with nothing spare.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to craft a Fire Charge in Minecraft?
1 Blaze Powder, 1 Coal and 1 Gunpowder at a Crafting Table: that is the whole shopping list for a Fire Charge. The cells do not matter here, so drop them in anywhere, and one craft produces 3 Fire Charges.
What do you need to make a Fire Charge from scratch?
Starting with nothing, a Fire Charge costs 1 Coal, 1 Gunpowder and 1 Blaze Rod. Everything else in the recipe is something you craft on the way there, over 2 crafts in total.
Where do you find the materials for a Fire Charge?
The materials for a Fire Charge each come from somewhere different. Blaze Powder: craft from blaze rods. Coal: mine coal ore. Gunpowder: kill creepers.
How many Fire Charges do you get from one craft?
The Fire Charge recipe makes 3 Fire Charges in a single craft.
What is the item ID for Fire Charge in Minecraft?
The Fire Charge item ID is minecraft:fire_charge, and in a command you can drop the namespace and write fire_charge on its own. Checked against Java 26.2.
Can you farm everything you need for a Fire Charge?
Fire Charge needs nothing you have to go find: blaze powder from blaze rod, coal from wither skeletons, and gunpowder from creepers. Set those up once and you can keep making fire charge.
What is the give command for Fire Charge?
/give @p fire_charge gives you a Fire Charge. Swap @p for a player name to hand it to someone else, and put 64 on the end for a whole stack.
Is the Fire Charge recipe the same in Java and Bedrock Edition?
Yes, the Fire Charge recipe is the same in both editions. Java and Bedrock both build a Fire Charge from 1 Blaze Powder, 1 Coal and 1 Gunpowder at a Crafting Table, in the same layout, 3 at a time.
Does it matter where you put the ingredients for a Fire Charge?
No, a Fire Charge is a shapeless recipe, so 1 Blaze Powder, 1 Coal and 1 Gunpowder can go in any slots you like. Only the set of ingredients is checked, not their arrangement.
What version of Minecraft added the Fire Charge?
Minecraft 1.2.1 is the oldest release that calls the fire charge by that name. The recipe file cannot narrow that down, because recipes only became separate files in 1.12. The current release still makes a Fire Charge exactly that way.
