How to Craft Steak in Minecraft

1 Raw Beef goes into the top of a Furnace with fuel underneath, and Steak comes out. You collect 1 Steak when it finishes. Eating one restores 8 hunger and 12.8 saturation.
Steak Item ID and Give Command
The item ID for Steak is minecraft:cooked_beef. In commands the namespace may be left off, so cooked_beef works too. Checked against Minecraft Java 26.2.
- Give yourself one
/give @p cooked_beef- Give a full stack of 64
/give @p cooked_beef 64- Give it to a named player
/give Steve cooked_beef 1
Cheats have to be on for Steak to appear this way, and the same command works on Bedrock Edition, where the name is written the same.
Overview
Steak restores 8 hunger points and 12.8 saturation, making it one of the best foods in the game. Steak is produced by smelting in a Furnace rather than by arranging items in a grid.
Minecraft has used the name Steak since Beta 1.8, the oldest release whose language file lists it.
The materials come together from a few sources: you will be working with raw beef (kill cows or mooshrooms).
Counting The Stack
Feed 1 raw beef a craft, so 64 covers 64 of them: 64 steaks. Nothing is wasted: craft 64 takes the rest.
Materials Needed
Steak needs Raw Beef (kill cows or mooshrooms), worked together at a Furnace.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Open your Furnace interface.
- Place Raw Beef in the top input slot.
- Add fuel (coal, charcoal, wood, etc.) to the bottom fuel slot.
- Wait for the smelting progress bar to complete. Collect your Steak from the output slot.

Tips & Notes
- Line up 1x Raw Beef before you open the Furnace. Raw Beef: kill cows or mooshrooms.
- Dried kelp blocks are the cheapest way to make Steak in bulk, at twenty smelts per block against coal's eight.
- There is more than one way to get Steak: the alternative methods further down this page can be quicker depending on what you already have.
